Ted Talks and Capital Punishment

So I just saw this Ted Talk on the internet and thought I would share/talk about it because it is a topic I am very passionate about.

As Daniel Reisel shows in the video above, it is be possible for people such as psychopaths to be rehabilitated and to be taught to feel emotions such as empathy.

Which brings me onto the topic I feel very strongly about, capital punishment.

Living in England, we no longer have things such as the death penalty, but over in countries like China and america it is a very different story. During 2013 at least 802 people were killed as a result of the death penalty, excluding China where over a thousand were put to death in 2013.

In the USA, 1,348 people have been executed since the death penalty was brought back to the country. With 35 states allowing people to be sentenced to death, it is only the minority of states which have decided to ban this practice
There is also a lot of racial injustice, because while 56% of people executed are white, there are actually more black people killed in proportion to their part of the population.

The main methods still used around the world are Lethal injections, Electrocution, Gas chamber, Hanging and Firing Squad. Though in some countries, Beheading and Stoning is also not uncommon.

I personally will never understand what pushes people towards capital punishment. It is a barbaric matter reminiscent of the days of slavery and other horrific practices.I see no way to approve of murdering others. As other articles will show, it is possible to rehabilitate people and killing is never a necessary resort. People are placed on death row for murdering others. Does it not seem ridiculous that you are condemning them to the same fate that you disapprove of? If you murder somebody for murdering another person, then surely everyone who decides to end another persons life should also be killed, and it will become a long chain of needless deaths.

I'm sorry for that rant, but I felt it needed to be said. Feel free to leave any responses below.

Great day today~!

Well, today will mainly be told through pictures but it was spent trying out new facemasks and sat in the garden in the sun doing revision.

Revision books~

Bunny boy (Oswald)

Bunny baby (Castiel)

Another shot of Castiel

Pretty butterfly that landed on the ground next to me~

Chemistry revision (and my ridiculous handwriting of a six year old)

Dinner was amazing~! (I am obsessed with avocado)

My hiragana practice (again terrible handwriting)

And Baby (girl cat) as seen from outside

So had a lovely day today with my Ipod and sun, also bought some more oolong tea that I can't get enough of~. Off to the gym for an hour now, will probably update on todays calories and exercise afterwards.

Sweet potato pizza

Had a sweet potato makeshift pizza for dinner and thought i would share the recipe~
So these are the ingredients im using~
  • Sweet potato
  • Tomato sauce
  • Chicken
  • Cheese
  • Lettuce

After peeling, chop up the sweet potato and stick it in a pan of boiling watet for 10-15 minutes.

Mash up the sweet potato after draining the water away.

Cover the bottom of the dish with the sweet potato and use a spoon to spread evenly.

Spread a layer of tomato sauce over the sweet potato.

Add your chosen toppings on top and grate some cheese on.

Put in the microwave for two minutes to melt the cheese.

Ready to eat~!

It tasted great and was really easy to make!
If you have any questions please leave a comment.

Just another short post for today

So as per usual, I sat down to revise for the july Japanese exam and got distracted.

On the other hand, I haven't made origami in a few months so it was a nice change~.

I should probably get some revision done before I get distracted by more origami paper or the violin.

Good afternoon!
So i've had a reasonably good day so far. Had sliced red pepper and some toast for breakfast. Went to a physics revision class this morning which went well.
I've spent the past two hours doing facial care, because my Etude House skin care stuff arrived~!

A first I wasn't sure what to think; my skin felt rather stiff and sticky and I was not very impressed. As time has past it has definitely made it much smoother and it looks tons cleaner! Would probably rate about 8/10 and certainly worth buying!

Currently sat listening to the Arctic Monkeys with the curtains and windows open (it's bloody boiling today) and attempting to revise.

Hello!
A late post from me today~
Friend's birthday meal was today. Felt pretty anxious about it at first, but managed to keep it together and order a salad (which actually tastes pretty good!). Felt much better afterwards; this is definitely something I could get used to!

Really need to get some more revision done, but every time I sit down I get so distracted! It seems the only time I want to tidy/sing/dance is when I have work to do. Sigh.
Considering how much I love my sciences, I always seem to have problems retaining my chemistry knowledge? I don't understand why, perhaps it is because I find it least interesting out of the three.

Well, I should probably stop procrastinating now and get some more work done.

こんにちは!

Hello~!
Lacie here. After comtemplating for a while, I decided setting up a blog would be a good idea.
So first, a bit of background info.

My birthday is the 17th of July and I am currently taking my GCSE exams. I live in the seaside resort of Blackpool in the North West of England. I love science and want to pursue a medical career as a surgeon. I also love experimenting with different makeup brands and hair styles.
I have been learning Japanese for two year and am hoping to move there after university (I'm hoping to get a place at Cambridge)

That's about it, i'm not very interesting. ^^'
My main reason for starting a blog is because I have an eating disorder and suffer from depression, and have been told a blog would be a good place to record my food diary and vent. I also enjoy just talking about science and fashion and pretty much anything else.

Well that's about it for my first post, I'm happy to speak to anyone so feel free to comment.
